A few months ago, Mr. Cheeseland found TGV tickets to Geneva for 20€ each, a deal too good to pass up. I had always wanted to see Switzerland and he thought it’d be nice to get away for a couple of days together. He’s been stressed at work and we needed to “se retrouver” (literally, to find each other but really I mean, spend time together disconnected from social media and a myriad of other distractions) so we took a very early train Sunday morning to a ghost town.
We probably should have done a bit more research about just how much there was to do in Geneva and just how dead it was going to be on a Sunday but our 4* hotel (booked on priceline for a mega deal) made it a nice getaway. I had imagined Geneva as charming as Paris but on a smaller scale. I was mistaken. The old city was lovely and felt much like some of the hilly, winding streets in Montmartre, but when I factored in how expensive the city is plus how little there is to do, apart from hanging around the lake (which is gorgeous), why would anyone choose to Geneva over Paris if they had a choice? I certainly wouldn’t. Here were some of the highlights nonetheless:
