Learning from McDonalds

I would by no means encourage anyone to eat at or support McDonalds but their new ad in France expresses how much more open and tolerant they are to varying sexual orientations and lifestyle choices than the Americans. How long will we wait to see a similar ad run in the States from a Corporate giant that boasts wholesome, traditional family values?
**After the fact note: Okay, after reading your comments and nodding with all of you I wanted to clarify my position on the matter. I completely agree that if it were to be a real show of support for homosexuals, it would’ve had to go a step further. But I saw this in a different way. When I first saw it, I was under the impression that the son was going to come out to his father over the meal and the viewer was supposed to just know that. Perhaps it could lead into a Part II with the actual conversation. BUT, I agree with Forest’s comment that as a corporate machine we wouldn’t really expect McDonalds to push the issue further. Regardless, I agree that they did the minimum of broaching the issue and this is far more than we could ever expect to see from an American McDonalds ad. I’m also almost positive that even if they had done more, including a boyfriend or showing the actual “coming out”, we would’ve found fault with the ad elsewhere.
