I mentioned on Friday that I had something in store for my husband and I on Saturday in honor of celebrating our 2 year engagement anniversary. Well he was, indeed, surprised! The plan for the afternoon was a cooking class at La Cuisine Paris. I met Jane, the founder, back in December and was immediately excited about the concept. Quite a departure from traditional cooking classes at Le Cordon Bleu, La Cuisine Paris offers courses in English and French, and caters to tourists and locals alike. The course offering is as diverse as the students it attracts, from Franco-American desserts and seaweed dishes to spicy thai and sassy cocktails.
I signed us up for the Macaroon class which I was so excited about. I like to think of myself as somewhat savvy in the kitchen but this class quelled any such notions proving that the beloved French (although originally from Italy) delight is anything but easy to prepare. Each step must be executed perfectly to ensure a proper final product.
On the menu: Strawberry Macaron & Chocolate Ganache Filling/Vanilla Macaron & Whipped Raspberry Filling. As soon as Diane, the instructor, passed around the giant bags of chocolate we would be melting, I knew I made the right choice. High quality chocolate, loads of butter and sugar… could it really be bad?
They came out VERY homemade but that’s the beauty of cooking classes. If it looks like it came right out of a Ladurée box, you didn’t do much learning. I highly recommend taking a class at LCP if you pass through Paris because frankly, what better way to immerse yourself in the culture than with food?
