No Country for Young Women

No

A couple of weeks ago I was interviewed by my brilliant and talented friend Elena, a documentary filmmaker, for her latest multimedia project. No Country for Young Women addresses gender discrimination in the workplace and tries to offer solutions. Through text and video interviews with women of varying age ranges, NCYW aims to tackle issues such as gender stereotyping, discrimination and wage gaps while encouraging the older generations of women to offer advice to the women just beginning their careers.

Elena was interested in getting my perspective as not only a woman launching her career but as an expat in France and the cultural differences that play a role in potential discrimination. I am a big supporter of her work and her emphasis on female agency. Elena’s previous project, The Illusionists, is a feature-length documentary about the manipulation and exploitation of women’s insecurities about their bodies – for profit. Her work is meaningful and powerful, garnering her a very deserving following.  Despite my displeasure with how I look and sound in the videos, I feel honored to have gotten to participate in the project. Below are my two interviews, one professional the other more personal. All interviews will be posted on the NCYW site as they are completed but you can check out the others (one with my good friend Amber!) on Vimeo for the time being.
