Franco File Friday: Fleurishing

Time for a new series. Well, we’ll see how long I keep it going but I like the idea of it and I think it could not only introduce you to different blogs but provide inspiration for places to check out on future travels to France. With that, I inaugurate Franco File Friday.

First up, Susan Hutchinson, the gorgeous redheaded creator of the blog Fleurishing and the children’s interior design studio Nesting whom I befriended on twitter. As it turns out, she lives just outside of Philadelphia! Not only do we have Philly in common but we’re both helpless Francophiles.When she and her husband spent 2 weeks traveling in Europe back in October, we met up when their journey brought them to Paris. They had the good fortune of being upgraded to a suite in the 5-star Westin Hotel where they invited me for a glass of wine and a glimpse at their spectacular view (pictures here). We chatted and drank and laughed and drank and realized how much we had in common. It was only natural that I thought of her to get the series off the ground and she enthusiastically agreed to participate. {All photos are Susan’s so please give proper credit!}

French Patrimony and Heritage

Describe what you love most about France in 3 words.

Culture, history, beauty.
Bonpoint Paris, Susan Hutchinson
Aside from the usual suspects – Ladurée, Diptyque, Angelina – what are your favorite shops in Paris and why?

Ah, Laduree, my obsession…ok, I’ll focus. The much talked about Merci (owned by BonPoint)-it is inspiring!
Shakespeare and Co-I could live there…(some do!)
Hermes-where I go to drool and dream.
This might be odd, but any Pharmacie-I can spend hours exploring!

Children’s clothing and design : better in France or the U.S? Why?

In my opinion there are more offerings for babies and children in the U.S., but some of my favorite products are made in France! In both countries you have to be aware of the origin of product…it is so difficult to find clothing and furniture that is made at home, in either country.

How do you incorporate French style into your home?

French style has been part of my design vocabulary since I was a child, as both my parents and grandparents loved that aesthetic. I like to mix old and new design, so that an interior never feels dated. The French style in our home is mostly seen in accents, such as fabric and artwork.

Favorite French book or film.

I love (and own) the Trois Couleurs trilogy, Bleu, Blanc et Rouge. And of course, Amélie. I also love the history in the book “Seven Ages of Paris” by Alistair Horne.

When is your next planned trip to France?

I hope to return again this year…my brother is expecting his second child, but it will be my first nephew!

Thanks to Susan for launching this new series! Follow her on twitter at @Fleurishing and @Nestingllc and be sure to recommend her to your friends expecting little ones.
