I believe in shutting out the rest of the world and lounging outdoors with a book, even in the heart of a bustling metropolis.
I believe in change as much as routine.
I believe in allowing ripples to form in relationships from time to time if and when necessary.
I believe in being uncomfortable and the blissful feeling of relief that follows when you finally adjust.
I believe in the occasional confrontation.
I believe in listening to your gut even if it temporarily makes waves for yourself and others.
I believe in supporting the ambitious ventures of friends and family and marveling at their talents and dedication as much when they succeed as when they fail.
I believe in contesting stereotypes.
I believe in calling people out on their baseless excuses and bullshit.
I believe in being called out on my baseless excuses and bullshit.
I believe in refusing to be what everyone expects.
I believe in being proud of yourself without the inflated ego that tends to go with it.
I believe in tough love so long as hugs and kisses are frequent.
I believe in talking openly about the laughable and injudicious decisions you’ve made in the past.
I believe in thinking about old flames and promptly feeling grateful to be free of them.
I believe in having mentors and teachers. We all need them no matter how old we are.
I believe in rehashing the past with former friends and reconnecting broken bonds.
I believe in becoming an expert in something.
I believe in intellectual debates and discussions (save for political talk in any country).
I believe in cannolis and carrot cake, though not necessarily together.
I believe in traveling, whether to far off, exotic locations or right in the state/country next door.
I believe in splashing in fountains and full-bodied laughter.
I believe in amusement parks, roller coasters and milkshakes.
I believe in making the bed everyday.
I believe in helping the French understand that change can be positive and contribute to needed progress without jeopardizing their ability to protect and nurture their heritage and traditions. America is a good example of a country able to do both.
Finally, I believe in the freedom and independence to make any of these choices.
