Dépaysant: a pleasant change of scenery; exotic. Corsica may not be far from Paris but it was certainly dépaysant. The juxtaposition of towering mountains and clear blue water was breathtaking at every turn. Even more shocking was returning to Paris today to 13°C (55°F) weather and wondering if the pilot hadn’t taken a wrong turn somewhere, skipping seasons in the process.
As expected, I am a shade darker with blotchy sun allergies to complete the vacation look but it was all worth it. It was important for Mr. Cheeseland and I to get away and explore a place we had both fantasized about for so long; to embark on a road trip adventure together. Corsica offers a little piece of paradise without ever having to living French territory – it was an almost perfect 8 days (because what would a vacation be without some unexpected hurdles?).
Surprisingly, these Ipanema flip flops were the most comfortable I’ve ever worn. Note: not from the series “designed” by supermodel Gisele Bündchen. At least I hope not.
My back held up quite well until we went hiking in the famous Gorges de la Restonica and slept on one too many bone-aching mattresses. I’m sure the mountain roads didn’t help but relaxing certainly did. It’s back to reality for me tomorrow and I have lots I want to share from this trip among other topics I plan on discussing once I get back into a rhythm.
I hope everyone had a lovely week. For those in Paris, get ready to enjoy Fête de la Musique tomorrow night!
